Safety
        on the whole way!

As part of ongoing efforts to improve road traffic safety and enhance the comfort of citizens in Astana, an innovative traffic signal, a Kazakhstani development by SMEU Astana LLP, has been constructed and commissioned on Uly-Dala Avenue, near the Small store.

ИСРСО 1

This new installation was implemented in response to resident requests and addresses the needs of both drivers and pedestrians. The traffic signal provides a safe and regulated pedestrian crossing across one of the busiest urban highways, and also facilitates U-turns and turns for vehicles heading towards nearby residential areas and schools.

ИСРСО 2

During the design of the traffic signal system, particular attention was given to creating an accessible environment for people with limited mobility, including individuals with disabilities and elderly citizens. The traffic signal is equipped with a special blue pedestrian push-button, differentiating it from standard solutions used throughout the city.

Pressing the lower part of this button activates a special mode, including:

  • An extended pedestrian phase duration, enabling citizens with reduced mobility to safely cross the roadway;
  • Voice prompts, informing visually impaired pedestrians about the walk signal and the beginning of the crossing;
  • An adaptive algorithm for pedestrian countdown timers, automatically recalculating the signal duration to account for the activation of the special phase.

ИСРСО 3

Thus, the new traffic signal exemplifies an integrated approach to ensuring the safety and inclusivity of urban transport infrastructure.

Currently, two traffic signal complexes have been constructed and commissioned in the city of Astana. A phased increase in their number is planned for the future.
